From game to film
In my most current creative work “a film about no man’s sky” I wanted to tell a story about a planet I discovered in the game “No Man’s Sky” (Hello Games). What’s so unique about this project is how it was filmed. I captured the cinematics in-game on PC using the game’s photo mode feature set. As for the spaceship flight and character scenes, I used my PS5 copy of the game to join myself on PC and act out specific movements of my character. This was done to overcome certain limitations within the game’s photo mode.
atmospehric storytelling
After watching some “found footage” horror videos at the time, I was inspired to give it a try myself. In this “Star Citizen” (Cloud Imperium Games) Machinima I wanted to really emphasize the tense and uneasy feeling that the player experiences when playing through this mission. To accomplish this effort, the video was filmed from the first person perspective with a small FOV. I then mimicked natural head movements by adjusting the game camera’s smoothing settings. Once filming was concluded, I created a VHS overlay effect, voice acted the characters voice lines, and created the sound effects used in the final edit.
In space, no one can hear you scream…
From intense shaky cam space flight shots to steady and slow panning shots, this “Starfield” (Bethesda Games) Machinima shows off a variety of my in-game cinematography capabilities. This project was originally intended to be a demonstration of Otis Inf’s photo mode mod for Starfield. Because of the shot variety I ended up refining it more and posting it.
